Notes the importance of flowers in Xochimilco due to the chinampas or pre-Hispanic floating gardens; and cites examples of the representation and symbolism of flowers in architectural decoration, including the reuse of pre-Hispanic reliefs to decorate 16th c. churches such as S. Bernardino.
