Examines instances in which the territorial and political contestation between Piero Soderini and members of the Medici family was enacted through partisan patronage at religious sites. Focuses on actions by Soderini, undertaken during his gonfaloniership (1502-1512). Concludes that Soderini's extension of patronage into the convents of Le Murate and S. Gallo, both already under Medicean influence and control, represent non-violent efforts to undermine and obliterate some Medicean symbols of territorial possession.
