History of the limited-access highway, from its planning stages in the 1930s to the present. Discusses the planning of the parkway's path through Connecticut and New York, the Art Deco bridges designed by George Dunkelberger, the political scandals surrounding the acquisition of land for the road, and the construction of the thoroughfare as well as its toll booths and other structures. Concludes with a look at the preservation efforts that have been taken since World War II.
