Discusses the relationship of the English flower border to French and Dutch models, and examines in detail the arrangement and contents of these borders, noting the importance of a variety of color and of symmetry and repetition. (Appendices with transcriptions of documents with directions for the planting of gardens, and lists of plants used from 1693-1735.
