Surveys the development of ceramic flowerpots through a study of archaeological evidence, as well as descriptions in gardening publications and sales catalogues. (Appendices with lists of flowerpots recovered from archaeological excavation, prices and measures for late 19th c. flowerpots, and a short history of Richard Sankey and Son, Bulwell, Nottingham, manufacturers of pots).
