Abstract (en)

On the reconstruction (1980s) of the area around S. Nikolai as a "historic" district in the style of the 17th-18th cs., following the severe damage sustained during the war. In addition to its value as a civic symbol, the quarter was designed to satisfy contemporary needs. Notwithstanding serious criticism of the appalling standards of workmanship, the tenants of the Nikolaiviertel have applied to have it listed as an area of historic interest.
