Discusses the role of imagery in pilgrims' souvenirs in the late antique period, in particular ampullae and tokens. Compares the spiritual journey of pilgrimage and the idea of rebirth through baptism: the imprint of the eulogia can be understood as a sort of spiritual seal, like the unction that sealed the baptismal rite. In both, the personal nature of the experience is stressed, and the "seal" marks the bearer as a member of the Elect.
