Places Turner's images of England from his Picturesque views in England and Wales, published between 1826 and 1838, in the political and social contexts of the early 19th c. Examines his innovative approach to depicting the British countryside, using unusual vantage points in many cases, and discusses how the inclusion of many working-class figures in these views was considered disturbing to Turner's public, because they allude to contemporary challenges to the representation of the political nation.
