Presents Canaletto's paintings and drawings of England executed over a period of nine years from 1746, together with work by contemporary and early 19th c. English artists. Catalogue essays discuss the artist's career in England, Venetian painters in England, the English market for topographical prints, Canaletto's images of London, and his influence on English artists active at the same time and in the years following his visit. Provides reproductions of all exhibits with commentaries, and publishes indices of artists, patrons and places depicted.
