Abstract (en)

Hypothesizes that Pisanello was at work in Rome as early as 1427 on the mural painting of the nave of S. Giovanni in Laterano for Martin V. Discusses a group of early Renaissance drawings after ancient art from the so-called "Roman sketchbook" (now scattered in various collections), arguing that they are by Pisanello (and workshop) rather than by Gentile da Fabriano, as sustained by Bernard Degenhart.
