Draws attention to the importance of accounts of the coast, islands and ports of Tuscany in the Kitâb-ï- Bahriyye, a volume of maps and geographical descriptions (1521) by the Ottoman navigator and cartographer Piri Reis. Notes his familiarity with earlier Italian maps.
