Discusses general questions of the history and methodology of studies of heraldry in Italy, and focuses on a 16th c. document from the Torrigiani family archives, composed of two parts, the second of which is a priorista or register of the names of Florentine magistrates, each accompanied by a coat or coats of arms; this part, containing over 252 papers, is dated 1526-1534. The first part consists of 11 pages, and includes a general armorial, created to glorify Leo X and Florence; this part is here dated 1520-1521 on the basis of analysis of the coats of arms of Leo X and Charles V.
