Refuting recent doubts, reexamines Alberti's unusual formulation of the rule establishing the relationship between weight and length as regards equilibrium in a lever; relates it to his translation of a similar passage from Archimedes's demonstration of his lever equilibrium theorem, arguing that Alberti provides a new key for interpreting the theorem of Archimedes, based on principles of statics.
