Study of problems concerning Leonardo's portrait of Cecilia Gallerani, Lady with the Ermine (Cracow, Czartoryski collection): the question of its chronology in relation to the life of the patron, Ludovico il Moro and his adoption of the ermine as a symbol, and the question why the painting was forgotten for 300 years, having been famous in its time. Dates it to Leonardo's first years in Milan; and observes that the attribution to Leonardo was not taken seriously in France in the 19th c.
