Abstract
(en)
On the basis of correspondence between Giulio (later Clement IX) and Camillo Rospigliosi, 1624-1667, as well as documents in the Rospigliosi-Pallavicini archive in Rome, surveys the family's patronage and policy for increasing their prestige in Pistoia. Commissions discussed include the following works of Bernini: the high altar of S. Spirito, Pistoia; Villa Rospigliosi in Lamporecchio, known as Lo Spicchio (for which Mattia de' Rossi acted briefly as capomaestro); and a fountain intended for Pistoia but erected at Palazzo Antamoro in Rome. Appendix with correspondence of Giulio, Camillo, and agents, 1637-1670; and a document of 1687 for the chapel of Lo Spicchio.
