Survey of the residences of the Este family in Roma in the 17th and 18th cs. Focuses on the numerous moves of cardinal Alessandro, noting that he eventually renounced his claim to the Palazzo Quirinale, then occupied by Paul V, in return for Tivoli, the residence he preferred owing to the political situation.
