Abstract (en)
Studies the particular qualities and circumstances of Impressionism in the Soviet Union. Argues that "working class Impressionism" or Socialist Realism corresponded to the national symbiosis of aesthetics and technology, and was closer to the core of Russian culture than the modern movements; concludes that Russian art will never again be as powerfully cohesive, full of purpose, and addressed to the public good.
