Presents evidence revealed by restorations of the Annibaldi "frieze" by Arnolfo di Cambio in S. Giovanni in Laterano, Rome: the presence of the index finger of the acolyte between the pages of the book that he holds for the priest reveals that the "frieze" was not originally one continuous slab with six figures but was executed as two separate elements, and that the figures of the priest and the acolyte were intended to be seen from a position facing the right end of the larger slab.
