Historical account of the construction process, context, and social and political meanings of the tomb built to house Napoleon's body in the Church of the Invalides. Examines in detail the work of Louis-Tullius Visconti, the architect commissioned for the project, and his relationship with the many sculptors involved in the collective creation of the tomb.
