Abstract (en)
Catalogue of 85 oil paintings and watercolors, mainly views of Western landscape and American Indians, preceded by a biographical and critical essay. The author says of Catlin: "He was the first artist to devote his entire career--indeed, his entire life--to the West. The sheer volume and variety of Catlin's work...the energy with which he disseminated it, and the passion which he brought to his task have never been equalled. Catlin visualized the West for a vast international audience".
