Abstract (en)
Life and work of painter Bert Geer Phillips who in 1898 became the first Anglo artist to make a home in Taos, NM. He remained there until shortly before his death in 1956. Phillips played an aggressive role in establishing the Taos art colony (ca.1911) and the Taos Society of Artists (1915). Includes a catalogue of known works. Various documents appended, among them Phillips's letters 1898-1901 to fellow artist Ernest L. Blumenschein.
