Abstract (en)
Explores the transformation of human sense perception in the industrial age, through analyses of literature, painting, architecture, film, philosophy, anthropology and popular culture. Considers works by Manet, Monet, Degas, and Duchamp, as well as influential structures such as Paxton's Crystal Palace in London, in an attempt to demonstrate the role of technology in the emergence of consumer culture in modern Europe.
