Abstract
(en)
Examines two 16th c. reconstructions of the plan, decoration, and architectural order of the Temple of Venus Genetrix in the Forum of Caesar, Rome, by Antonio Labacco (1559) and Andrea Palladio (1570) in order to assess the value and meaning attached to ancient Roman ruins by Renaissance architectural theorists. (Palladio believed the temple to have been dedicated to Neptune.)
