- Discusses Ponz's praise of Herrera's architecture and his condemnation of Spanish late baroque style in his Viaje de España (18 volumes published 1772-1794) in the context of the classical revival in Spain as exemplified by Ventura Rodríguez. Compares Spain's late 18th c. rediscovery of her Renaissance architectural heritage with the rise of Neo-classicism in France, and notes Spanish awareness of French architectural criticism which condemned the Rococo and promoted a return to the antique.
