Relates, based on as yet unpublished sources, the circumstances in which the lithograph Mademoiselle Marcelle Lender, Half-length by Toulouse-Lautrec, published in the third issue of the magazine PAN in October 1895, was commissioned, made, and received in Germany. Although the editors of the journal (among them Julius Meier-Graefe), who hoped to inspire a renaissance in printmaking in Germany, appreciated the quality of the print, some objected to its publication for reasons of nationalism and of the financial state of the magazine.
