Abstract (en)
In the second half of the 16th c., Duke Albrecht V of Bavaria founded in Munich one of the largest Kunstkammern of his time. The earliest full inventory of this collection dates from 1598, but earlier archival documents concerning the collecting activities of the Duke and his agents have been preserved, mainly in the Bavarian State Archives. This article presents a full edition of the earliest documents referring to objects of Mexican provenance, which formed part of a larger gift by the Cardinal Francesco de' Medici, presented in May 1572. The text has been completed with the aid of documents from the State Archives in Florence, and the inventory found in the correspondence is translated and commented upon.
