Traces the artistic career in Rome of Nicola La Piccola, who studied with Francesco Mancini, worked for cardinal Alessandro Albani in the Villa Albani, for the papal court, and for members of the Roman nobility. Discusses La Piccola's restoration of paintings in the Villa Giulia, after a fire in 1549, and his activity as an antiquarian in Rome. Appendix: documents, 1772-1773.
