Abstract
(en)
Discusses the influence of Roger Fry's art criticism--especially his view of Piero della Francesca--on the art and writing of other members of the Bloomsbury group. Studies Fry's formal analysis, which identified a continuum between the painting of Piero and that of Paul Cézanne, and shows the influence that this parallel exerted on the Group in their defense of the modern art movement. Suggests that a sense of rivalry caused Bernard Berenson to ignore the Group's contribution to the 20th c. rediscovery of Piero.
