Abstract
(en)
Discusses the iconography of the mural paintings (Rome, Trinità dei Monti, Chateauvillain Chapel) attributed by Vasari to Jacopo Siculo, and probably commissioned by Pope Clement VII following the Sack of Rome. Interprets the subjects of three of the episodes as the principal apparitions of S. Michael the Archangel: at the Tomb of Hadrian (Castel S. Angelo) in Rome; on Monte Sant'Angelo (Gargano); and at Mont-Saint-Michel in France.
