Abstract (en)
Surveys the extant designs for a new bell tower of the Amsterdam Nieuwe Kerk after the fire of 1645 (only a portion realized in 1647-1652, later demolished), compares them to the types of Gothic bell towers in the Netherlands, discusses the design problems when applying Classicist rules to a bell tower, and speculates about the involvement of Jacob van Campen.
