Reviews this study of the German Gothic revival and its principal exponent in the context of the tradition of research on 19th c. medievalism and in relation to recent scholarship in English on 19th c. German architecture. Notes the author's view that the German Gothic revival was rooted in the conflict between Rhenish Catholic and Prussian Protestant factions and was profoundly political in character.
