The Winterbotham collection is comprised of 35 European paintings purchased with monies from a fund established in 1921 by Joseph Winterbotham. According to the terms of the gift, monies are invested and maintained as principal; with the proceeds, the museum may purchase no more than 35 European paintings. Since 1946, several works have been sold or exchanged for others of superior quality and significance to the collection. This publication includes an essay by Lyn Delliquadri, "A living tradition: the Winterbothams and their legacy; " full catalogue entries with color illustrations for the 35 European paintings 1862-1964 which currently comprise the Winterbotham collection; and an illustrated checklist of all 66 paintings that have ever been in the Winterbotham collection, arranged chronologically by date of purchase 1921-1994.
