Presents a preparatory drawing attributed to Raphael, tentatively entitled S. Benedict Receiving Mauro and Placido (Steven Juvelis collection; on deposit at the Fogg Museum, Harvard University, Cambridge); and discusses the question of its association either with the Pinturicchio frescoes of 1503-1504 in the Piccolomini Library (Siena, cathedral), proposed by Joannides and others, or with Sodoma's cycle (begun 1505) at Monte Oliveto (source for the present title); suggests it may be related to both projects, and draws attention to the implications of this for an understanding of Renaissance workshop practices.
