Abstract (en)
Various observations on the personalized imagery of the king in several of his many manuscripts. Contends that his images were designed to depict certain aspects of his personality and to stress a personal context within broader themes of kingship, spirituality, chivalry, and intellect. Proposes that for Charles, these images were not kept private, "...but were deliberately loaned during his lifetime to affect the opinions of his contemporaries and to influence the historians who would transmit them to the future".
