Reports that the conservation laboratory of the Cleveland Museum of Art undertook technical research on the silver basse-taille enamel in the Medieval galleries and discovered four cases of post-1800 history: a 14th c. French table fountain with affixed medieval plaques re-enameled after 1810; two late 14th c. Spanish quadrilobed plaques from a cross, re-enameled after 1830; and three Gothic revival plaques. Includes discussion of enamel and the basse-taille technique, and the history of colorants; and gives a detailed account of analyses and their results.
