Finds the monograph on Piacentini an inadequate account of the powerful Roman architect of the fascist period; commends the catalogues of the exhibitions devoted to Libera, held in Trento at the Museo provinciale d'arte (1989), and the elder Sottsass, held at the Palazzo delle Albere, Trento (1991); and discusses the influential critic and art dealer P.M. Bardi and his role in Italian architectural culture and the physical modernization of Italy in the 1930s, the subject of the last two books: finds Mariani's study useful for the primary source material it includes, and notes that the considerable merits of Tentori's biography are vitiated by the lack of scholarly apparatus and by mean-spirited attacks on other scholars.
