Study of the development of the imperial image of the Hapsburgs in the mid-15th to early 17th cs., focusing on the symbolism (and Order) of the Golden Fleece and on the elaboration of a mythic genealogy going back to Jason and Aeneas. The reviewer finds the author sometimes ahistorical in the sweep of her assertions, and questions her emphasis on Philip II rather than the courts of Vienna and Prague.
