Presents three examples illustrating the effects of reunification on the protection of historical monuments in Berlin: the Brandenburger Tor (built by Carl Gotthard Langhans, 1788-1791), which had been isolated by the Berlin Wall and is now surrounded by traffic; the East-Side Gallery, the 1.3 kilometer stretch of the Berlin Wall that survives, which artists have decorated in celebration of freedom; and the project to rebuild the Berlin Stadtschloss.
