Abstract
(en)
Continuing the author's investigation of fiction and self-invention in Vasari's life of Michelangelo and Michelangelo's autobiography as told through Condivi, explores the poetic imaginations of Vasari and Michelangelo in order to show how their fantasies illuminate literary and artistic phenomena of the Renaissance. Draws attention to the importance of the pastoral for Michelangelo, and to the role of Ovid in the artist's biography and in his theory and practice of art.
