Discusses the political content and the controversial reception of Holzer's piece for the title page of the magazine section of the Süddeutsche Zeitung, 19 Nov 1993, entitled Da wo Frauen sterben bin ich hellwach (I Am Awake in the Place Where Women Die). The inscription was positioned against a background of printers' ink mixed with blood donated by eight women from former Yugoslavia in recognition of the women raped and murdered there during the war. Inside the magazine a 28-page section depicted close-up photographs of human skin on which were printed sentences in German and English evoking experiences of sexuality, violence, and death.
