Book published in conjunction with an exhibition tracing the architectural, political, social and ideological history of the Berlin monument built by Schinkel 1816-1818, and later used as a war memorial. Essays examine the early history of the structure, as well as its later use and the installation of a sculpture of a mother and son by Kollwitz, 1937.
