Abstract (en)
Reports on the 14-month search for a new director for the Museum of Modern Art in New York and on the recent appointment of Glenn D. Lowry, a specialist in Islamic art who as director of the Art Gallery of Ontario (Toronto) distinguished himself by raising almost $$4 million to exhibit the Barnes collection; observes that the difficulty in filling the post was due to the fact that it is not the director but the curators who deal with the works of art and decide on acquisitions and exhibitions.
