Evaluates the relationships among a number of portraits of the Dutch painter, showing that a portrait in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, which has always been called a self-portrait, is actually a depiction of the artist by Boonen. Identifies still other portraits by Boonen and his studio, asserting that most print portraits as well as paintings derive from these works.
