Contrary to prevailing attitudes pointing to a convergence or parallelism between science and art, argues that both should benefit from their essential differences in scope and practices. Their possible encounters then become all the more precious. Such encounters are illustrated with examples based on the author's professional experience (as a scientist) and his personal tastes as an amateur of contemporary art.
