On the question of the authenticity of the unfinished Allegory of Virtue attributed to Correggio, purchased by Timothy Clifford for the National Gallery of Scotland (Edinburgh); reports that Cecil Gould identified it tentatively as the first of three versions related to the commission for Isabella d'Este (1520s): the second, also unfinished, is in the Galleria Doria Pamphili (Rome); and the third and final version is in the Louvre (Paris). Traces its provenence, and presents views of other experts for and against the attribution.
