Abstract (en)

Defines and explores the evolution of the "mood landscape" in German and Scandinavian painting, from Caspar David Friedrich to Munch. Considers the types of landscapes depicted, the use of color and line, the inclusion or exclusion of the human figure, and the way these expressly emotional landscapes are meant to appeal to the viewer.
