Publishes two letters dated 28 Aug 1609 by the grand master of the Order of Malta, Alof de Wignacourt, which establish that Leonello Spada was in Malta after that date and confirm his authorship of the fresco decorations in the Hall of the Ambassadors in the Palace of the Grand Master in Valletta. Argues that the influence of Caravaggio on his work dates from his period in Malta, 1609-1610, and was thus indirect; also suggests that Spada's assistant, mentioned in one of the letters, was Massari.
