Abstract (en)

Traces the structural history of the English castle from its foundation as a ringwork early in the 12th c. to the building of the extant stone tower early in the 14th c. The finds, including medieval pottery (by B.E. Vyner), metalware, stone, bone gaming pieces (by Mark Redknap), and animal bones are dealt with in specialist reports.
