Account of director Alfred Lichtwark's efforts from 1886 to introduce modern art to the Hamburger Kunsthalle, and to Germany in general. Discusses Anders Zorn's visit to Hamburg. Looks at the Zorn works acquired by the Kunsthalle, including an 1891 watercolor of The Port of Hamburg and a large group of etchings, and the general reception of Zorn's work in Germany.
