Abstract (en)
Presents new evidence casting light on the activity of Fray Francisco Marín in the Dominican province of Santiago, Mexico; focuses on three churches in the Oaxaca area designed by him and built under his supervision between 1546 and 1550: S. Domingo, Yanhuitlán; S. Juan Bautista, San Juan Bautista Coixtlahuaca; and S. Domingo, Oaxaca. Draws attention to similarities between the design of S. Domingo, Oaxaca, and the Gesù (Rome), noting that Marín's design anticipates Vignola's by as much as 20 years; and ascribes Marín's stylistic sophistication to the influence of Rodrigo Gil de Hontañon.
